Warning Trends

Fed lowers rates for the first time in 2025

  • On September 17, the Federal Reserve’s Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) voted to lower interest rates to a target range of 4.0% to 4.25%, down 0.25% from the rate it had been holding since November of last year.
  • Despite indications at the start of the year that steady reductions to the relatively high 4.25% to 4.5% rate were on the horizon, the Fed held off on rate cuts for much of the year due to concerns that the combination of higher tariffs and a reduction in borrowing costs could cause rebounding inflation.
  • The September cut to Fed interest rates signals a shift in this strategy, indicating that the Fed now considers weakening employment figures a greater threat than inflation. As a result, FOMC officials have also signaled that two additional rate cuts are likely before the end of the year in an effort to fight unemployment and stimulate the economy.
  • Declining Fed funds rates will provide relief to borrowers by lowering the market interest rates for consumer and business loans. This reduction in the cost of borrowing will reduce the cost of many banking and financial services, and may spur increases in demand across the economy.

The EU finalizes the Cyber Resilience Act

  • On September 15, 2022, the EU proposed the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), which aims to increase the focus on cybersecurity throughout the development lifecycle of digital products, protecting consumers and businesses from increasingly dangerous cyber threats.
  • Other objectives include creating a coherent cybersecurity framework for producers to comply with, creating an obligation to secure products for the entire lifecycle of the products, as well as increasing the visibility of security properties in digital products.
  • The goal of the Act is to ultimately create hardware and software products that are more secure against cyberattacks. Fines can reach up to a maximum of €15 million or 2.5% of global turnover, whichever is the higher of the two.
  • On November 30, 2023, The European Commission, Council, and Parliament came to an agreement on the text of the Cyber Resilience Act and formally adopted the act on March 12, 2024.
  • The CRA will be rolled out through a phased transition plan during the second half of 2024. The majority of the provisions will be enforceable in 2027, three years after publication.

Vendor & Supply Chain Analysis

Supply chain risk in the business credit reporting services market is low because service providers require few critical inputs to operate efficiently. Also, providers of business credit reporting services have many upstream suppliers to choose from.

Vendors throughout the market have moderate risk on average due to there being primarily small to midsize companies that are privately held, making it difficult for buyers to assess the financial stability of suppliers.

The business credit reporting service market has a high level of market share concentration, which has grown slightly because of merger and acquisition growth across the industry, contributing to a slight decrease in the number of enterprises operating in the business credit reporting services industry. Buyers are harmed by this upward trend in market share concentration as less competition between suppliers reduced buyers’ ability to leverage alternative suppliers.

The United States is a net importer of computers, meaning it imports more computers than it exports. While lower manufacturing costs abroad drive down prices for imported computers, relying on imports can lead to potential shortages or price increases if there are supply chain disruptions due to geopolitical tensions, trade disputes, or global crises.
